The Mormon food storage system. White wheat denied!
Hi y'all. First off, I am a Mormon. Actually, I consider myself a New Order Mormon. Follow the link to learn what that is.
Well, our leaders have told us to have 1 year supply of food on hand for the last 100 years. Most Mormons heed this to varying degrees. I would say we are at a 6 Month supply on hand right now, and expanding it quickly. As part of helping us accomplish this goal, they have cannery sites all over the country. Here, you can buy and can (#10 cans, mylar bags) various foods in bulk. Let me tell you, it is cheap. Well, I just got back from our local cannery, and brought back a boat load of food, now canned and prepped. One interesting thing was I wanted to buy a couple hundred pounds of white wheat. They had inventory on hand, but were not authorized to sell it to me until after the first of the year! It was eerie, let me tell you. So, not sure what was going on with that. :thumb.aspx: I will try and go back to the place after first of the year. So, tonight I brought back a trunk load of food, packed in #10 cans. My wall of food is growing in my garage. So, there you have it, food survival prep, the Mormon way. We do eat from the storage to rotate it regularly. We just had some carrots and onions (dried) that we packed pre Y2K! Good times! Someone on GIM wrote: Beans, Bullets, and Bullion are what we need! I love this! Regards, cpy911 |

Is there one of these food depots near the SF bay area? Do you have to be a Mormon to use it?

I have one just 15 miles away and hope to drop by soon and check it out.
Hopefully they won't hold it agasint me that I am not a member. Sat with a couple of ladies in my home for a few hours, but just not for me. Gotta give those kids credit for their "mission" work, but a little over the top for us. |

As far as I know, you can be a non-member and still get in. But yes, they may try to convert you, or at least ask you about your interest or motivation for being there.
More info about this program is at http://providentliving.org/ I grew up in this religion, and its completely ingrained in my family, so I am culturally in it. At least I get the food prep benefit! Regards, cpy911 |

Re: The Mormon food storage system. White wheat denied!
I'm glad to hear that the Mormons are so well-prepared to survive; but now I'm also a little afraid that, if I also survive, I will be surrounded for the rest of my life by Mormons. :hissyfit_m:
...just kidding  |
